Celebrate New Mexico’s Centennial with dancing, food, music, car shows, an arts market, free children’s activities and a territorial village.

New Mexico Centennial Summerfest will depict many of the important aspects of our state’s history – and our future – so that in one day you will get a taste of New Mexico’s past and what lies ahead.
The event will feature performances by New Mexico’s most prominent entertainers. Five performance stages will be placed on Route 66 (Central Avenue) in Downtown Albuquerque.

The Hispanic Heritage Stage featuring flamenco, mariachis, folk dance, New Mexico Music (music with influences from Mexico, Spain, Europe, and home) will be found at 3rd and Central.

The Native American Stage (4th and Central) will feature traditional and modern Native American music and dance along with Native American crafts displays, vendors and food.

The World Stage will be located against Albuquerque’s iconic KiMo Theatre (5th and Central). Peoples from throughout the world have migrated to New Mexico bringing with them their culture, music and dance. The Word Stage will provide performances and displays with influences from several continents.

At 7th and Central tap your toes and dance at the Route 66 Rock and Rockabilly Stage and Car Show. New Mexico and Albuquerque have one of the most intact and authentic portions of the “Mother Road,” where classic cars and hot rods are synonymous with Route 66. See some of the finest and most unique automobiles collected and presented on Old Route 66.

At Robinson Park (8th and Central) visitors will find the Territorial Village. The Territorial Village will truly look at our City and State’s unique past. Eat from authentic Chuck Wagons where food is prepared from Dutch ovens or cooked underground. Beware of the gun fighters (actors) with comically serious reenactments of the Wild West. Purchase fruits and vegetables at our Territorial Grower’s Market. Listen and dance to western performing artists at the Territorial Stage.

Centennial Contemporary and Traditional Juried Art Show – Experience the fine art of New Mexico. Visitors will have the opportunity to see and purchase fine art ranging from traditional retablos and Santos, to two- and three-dimensional contemporary fine art. Visit the Centennial Contemporary and Traditional Art show located along side Central Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets.

The Atomic Age – New Mexico was the birth place of the atomic age. At the New Mexico Centennial Summerfest see displays about the Manhattan Project, White Sands, and more. There will also be featured displays of New Mexico’s charge into the future, from Sandia National Labs and Intel, to the NM Spaceport.

Food – There will be multiple opportunities to sample the delicious foods for which New Mexico is known. Red and Green Chile of course, but also Native American fare, fresh made tortillas, an authentic Matanza, and genuine Chuck Wagon Dutch Oven cooking. Plus multiple food vendors for every type of appetite.

Activities for Children – including free fun jumps, arts and crafts, and performances specifically for young at heart can be found throughout the Centennial Summerfest event. This event is for all ages.

Harry E. Kinney Civic Plaza – On the evening of June 16, 2012 New Mexico Centennial Summerfest will conclude with a free concert featuring an internationally renowned performer. At the conclusion of the concert the audience will experience a fireworks show launched from downtown Albuquerque.
